Talk to the glove

With so many cameras covering professional sporting events, athletes and coaches have taken to covering their mouths while speaking to each other. This is most commonly seen during mound visits in baseball games. The pitcher covers his mouth with his glove. The manager covers his mouth with his hand. And of course the catcher has a mask on.

Pitchers have diversified their use of the glove shield. They love to cover their face when walking to the dugout at the end of the inning so they can drop an F-bomb or two without getting picked up by the camera. (I would love to hear a pitcher miked up when they do the glove shield routine. This could be shown on my new cable sports channel, where the announcers freely curse. You can't tell me that John McEnroe wouldn't sign up immediately for a gig like that. I'm getting off on a tangent here. This topic might deserve its own blog entry. Stay tuned for a future post on Fox Sports Uncensored).

In the meantime, I encourage everybody to pick up a baseball glove at your local sporting goods store. Bring it to your next meeting with your boss.

Boss: These reports you handed in, it's almost as if you have no business training at all. I don't know what this is supposed to be.

You: (covering face with baseball glove). You *&^* *^@*&*&. Why don't you go ^&%$ &^%$$^.
(remove glove). Let me give it another try. I know I can do a better job.

Here Comes The Sun

Finally some good weather in Boston after a spell of wet and dreary days. Is there a biological reaction that takes place in our bodies when the weather is bad? I certainly feel different. And if so, when are they going to release "sun pills" that make your body feel like it does when it's 70 degrees and sunny? Better yet, let's bottle the stuff in water. With all the different enhanced water drinks out there now, "sun water" must be coming soon.

Just Ask

For the past 48 hours, I have thought about nothing but sex. It is a miracle I got anything done.

Courtesy of MSNBC's sexploration columns, here is a bit of advice for you sex makers....

According to the new Elle/MSNBC.com Sex and Love Survey, only four in 10 respondents said they have asked their lovers for something in bed in the past month. Donald S. Strassberg, a professor of psychology at the University of Utah, says communication is the bedrock of sexual satisfaction. Yet, our culture hasn’t given us permission. He says, "We’re afraid of offending our lovers, afraid of being judged by our lovers, afraid of admitting to any “weaknesses.”

Many people worry that a request can sound like an implied criticism, as if “Could you swirl your tongue slowly counterclockwise” will be heard as “Why can’t you do it right?” Or “Do you think you could wear glasses and a plaid skirt marked with chalk dust and act like my seventh-grade algebra teacher?” will be heard as “You are so boring, I need you to be somebody else to get excited.”

Lesson to be learned...Just Ask. You may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

Let me know how it goes.

free sample

Sampling is a great concept. I can try something at no cost before I am required to buy it. It is an effective method for building awareness and generating sales.

I enjoy sampling food, but I find that I cannot buy a meal after sampling it. I don't know what it is. I have eaten 100 samples of Bourbon Chicken at food courts across the country but have never bought a full Bourbon Chicken meal. Does anybody else have this same experience?

I'm realizing that most of my posts have been about sports and food thus far. Who said that men only think about sex?

Dice K's Nike commercial

Dice K mania has hit the hub. Can he live up the hype? Will he be able to carry over the success he had in Japan to the best baseball league in the world? How will he respond to the demanding Boston fans? Whatever happens, it's going to be fun to watch. And, we will likely see him beyond the baseball diamond.

Check out Dice K's Nike commercial:

Where's my daddy?

Minnesota Twin closer Joe Nathan is standing by at the hospital, awaiting the birth of his child. Nathan says he will monitor the Twins game, and will drive to the park if a save situation arises.

This isn't Game 7 of the World Series. The season isn't even a week old. Shawn Green skips games in October for Jewish holidays. Roger Clemens stays home to coach his kid's little league games. Manny Ramirez skips games to go to the spa at the Ritz Carlton.

Joe Nathan....do the right thing and stand by your wife's side. There will be plenty more save opportunities. But, how often do you get to experience the birth of one of your children?

2 years of excellence

The Florida Gators basketball team won the NCAA men's basketball championship last night for the 2nd consecutive year. With a tournament format that allows little margin for error and has historically been a feeding ground for underdogs, this is a tremendous accomplishment.

I ask you...when was the last time you dedicated two years of your life to anything? (Individually or as a team?)

I see many people jumping from one thing to another, an obsession with variety and the ongoing pursuit of finding perfection. Consider what can be achieved or experienced by digging in for two years. The result could be very satisfying.

MySpace

Say what you will about MySpace. It's used for stalking. It can be detrimental when applying for jobs. You can waste hours of your day searching profiles and composing slide shows. But if you need an ego boost, you might consider creating a MySpace page. There's nothing like getting an unexpected email to brighten up your afternoon. Today, I heard from a nice girl named Destiny who wanted to be my friend.

Myspace is currently the world's fifth most popular English-language website and the fifth most popular website in any language.
